Who We Are
IG Petrochemicals Ltd. operates five phthalic anhydride production plants at a single integrated campus in Taloja, Maharashtra — 270,000 MTPA of installed capacity and approximately 50% of India's domestic PA capacity, making it a significant supplier to the downstream chemical value chain.
Our core product, phthalic anhydride, is an essential industrial intermediate used in the manufacture of plasticisers, alkyd resins, unsaturated polyester resins, dyes, and pigments. Every significant Indian manufacturer in paints, PVC, and construction chemicals depends on a reliable PA supply chain — and IGPL sits at the centre of it.
Beyond PA, we recover maleic anhydride and benzoic acid as byproducts and produce diethyl phthalate as a downstream value-added product — capturing more of the value chain from the same ortho-xylene feedstock.
Our Story
Strategic Relevance
IGPL occupies a structural position in India's chemical value chain. Large-scale domestic PA manufacturing is freight-sensitive, quality-critical, and consumed by industries that demand uninterrupted supply — characteristics that favour established producers with scale and continuity.
Phthalic anhydride is a critical industrial intermediate used in plasticisers, coatings, resins, and specialty chemicals. IGPL holds approximately 50% of India's domestic PA capacity — one of India's principal domestic suppliers in this category.
A single feedstock — ortho-xylene — produces four commercial products through integrated operations. Maleic anhydride, benzoic acid, and diethyl phthalate are recovered as byproducts, maximising yield from every tonne of raw material.
Located at Taloja, Maharashtra — 50 km from JNPT, India's largest container port. Proximity to port, domestic consumption centres, and raw material sources creates a durable cost and delivery advantage.

IGPL converts ortho-xylene into phthalic anhydride at industrial scale using the Wacker Chemie Von-Heyden catalytic oxidation process. Maleic anhydride and benzoic acid are recovered as byproducts from the same reaction, while diethyl phthalate is manufactured downstream — maximising value extraction from a single feedstock.
Why IGPL
Taloja, Maharashtra — in the heart of India's western chemical corridor. 50 km from JNPT, India's largest container port, enabling cost-effective logistics for both domestic dispatch and export shipments.
India's largest single-site PA complex with approximately 50% domestic market share. Three decades of continuous capacity expansion have created a scale advantage that new entrants cannot easily replicate.
PA, maleic anhydride, and benzoic acid recovered from the same catalytic process, plus downstream DEP production. Multiple revenue streams from a single feedstock, lowering marginal cost and improving gross contribution.

PA-based alkyd resins for architectural and industrial coatings, enabling durability and gloss retention.
PA converts to DOP and other plasticisers for flexible PVC in packaging, cables, flooring, and medical devices.
Unsaturated polyester resins derived from PA and MA for construction panels, tanks, and marine applications.
Waterproofing compounds, sealants, and adhesive systems that rely on phthalate-based plasticiser chemistry.
OEM and refinish coatings plus flexible interior components that depend on PA-derived raw materials.
Agrochemical intermediates produced from maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride-based chemistry.
Manufacturing
Five phthalic anhydride production plants operate on a single integrated campus at Taloja, Maharashtra. Each plant uses the Wacker Chemie Von-Heyden catalytic oxidation process, converting ortho-xylene feedstock into high-purity PA at a combined capacity of 270,000 MTPA.
The Taloja campus sits within India's western chemical corridor, less than 50 km from JNPT — providing direct access to port infrastructure for raw material imports and product exports. Shared utilities, centralised DCS control rooms, and common logistics infrastructure deliver operational efficiency that distributed operations cannot match.
